We are multidimensional beings with a propensity toward balance. Through our
yoga practice we cultivate equilibrium in our body through flexibility and
strength, in our breath through directed expansion and contraction, and in our
mind through meditation and self-study. With svadhyaya (self-study) we learn
about our physical and psychological make-up, from the gross to the more subtle,
including patterns in thought and in action. We practice svadhyaya through
observation of our thoughts and actions without judgment, the study of
inspirational texts and the guidance of teachers. With self-reflection and
guidance, we develop a greater understanding of who we are to our core and how
we can experience ourselves with greater clarity and resolution.
