instructors_laura1 Laura DeFreitas came to yoga in 2001 after 15 years of competitive gymnastics.  She is a graduate of the Pacific Yoga Teacher Training Program at the Yoga Tree and the 8 Limbs Yoga Centers Advanced Teacher Training.  In 2006 she completed the Level 1 Universal Teacher Training with master teacher Andrey Lappa.  She studies closely with, and is grateful for the guidance of Seattle based teachers Katerina Wen (universal yoga) and Troy Lucero (ashtanga yoga).

Laura's classes are marked by creative sequencing and attention to technique.  She combines the grace and fluidity of vinyasa with intensity of held postures to create classes that encourage students to practice deeply.  Her classes explore the wealth of yoga through pranayama, guided meditation, chanting, mudra, and Yoga Nidra.

Laura's sankalpa, or intention, as a teacher is to be a divine channel through which the ancient science and practice of yoga can awaken the innate joy and freedom within the hearts, minds, and bodies of its dedicated seekers.  A source of continual inspiration is the following quote by Jivamukti yogis, Sharon Gannon and David Life:

"You cannot "do" yoga.  Yoga is your natural state.  What you can do is yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.  What is this natural state?  Eternal everlasting happiness: Bliss."

Laura's own practice has revealed that the limitations felt in the body or mind while practicing yoga are opportunities to concentrate on our true nature, which is love itself. She is dedicated to creating a classroom environment in which the union of the vast and limitless Self can be experienced and taken off the mat and into daily life.
